Site Brief:
New Deck and Pool area
This large residence is home to a professional couple, that do not have a heap of time on their hands, therefore this design needed to be low maintenance, in harmony with the minor alterations to the exterior of the house, and produce a high quality outcome.
The existing deck and spa were small, disjointed and being on different levels, did not allow for a good flow from the house to the garden.
A number of sketches were completed to show various options for screening and a pergola around a new pool and deck area. This area is a key element in the design as it becomes part of the main visual experience as you drive up to the main entrance to the house.
The new pool and paved area raised the existing level of the garden edge to the drive considerably so soil was imported from within the site and new levels created. Rocks sourced locally were incorporated in the garden to retain new levels and enhance the new stone pillars both at the drive entrance and surrounding the pool. The drive way was relaid (using existing bricks) and a new permeable parking area created beside the pool.
The planting in the garden consisted of a mix of native species for their hardiness, colour and forms, with a few exotic species to feed the local bird-life. All gardens were mulched to retain soil moisture levels and reduce the need for watering.
