Angelique was commissioned by a young vibrant couple in MT Eden, to design and build a new courtyard. Their courtyard at the time was small, over planted and at different levels making it difficult to even put chairs and a table out there. It is located in a tricky location, where the only access is through the front door of their 3 story Townhouse, and up one story of carpeted stairs. Moreover it also had strict body corporate rules. We were not allow to permanently attach any product or material to the existing boundary wall, plants were not allowed to shade or impede on neighbours, no new impermeable surfaces were allowed and painting was also prohibited.
The interior of their townhouse is modern, with clean lines and a contemporary theme. The courtyard at the time did not reflect this style at all and was just a waste of good space! The couple are professional business people spending much of their time away from home. They have one very loved pussy cat who has the run of the townhouse. They needed a garden that could inspire them when they were at home, something with a bit of a pacific theme, low maintenance and somewhere where they could place a good old Kiwi BBQ. It needed to be all this plus an extension of their home.
