Claire

Hey everyone!

My name is Claire, 21, and I am a student at the National Institute of Horticulture and Landscape Agrocampus Ouest, which is a French engineering school. I am also currently employed as an intern student at Aesthetic Landscapes, and I enjoy it! The picture to the left is me with my firends. I am second from the left.

My motivation was to obtain more knowledge and skills on all the different aspects of landscape architecture and to establish connections between what I'm learning at college and a professional centre. I had already taken drawing courses, and I have a good knowledge of horticulture. My last school project (shown below) was the design of a 50m2 interior garden for the “ExpoFlo 2010” a floral exposition in Angers. I have also visited many gardens and parks of castles in France and other countries. Indeed, I travelled a lot in Europe and in the United States. Moreover, coming to New Zealand was a dream for me and this internship permits me to accomplish both passions: landscape design and travelling.

What else could I say? I love music, as I have played piano for 15 years, but also dancing salsa and climbing.

And here I am, and maybe you will seat on my chair one day, trying to create the design of a vegetable garden, finding suppliers or completing a plant list! So if you wish to improve your skills, and feel the spirit of kiwi landscape architecture, you will enjoy working for Aesthetic Landscapes.co.nz.

Susanne

My name is Susanne Frank, I am 22 years old, and I am a student of landscape architecture at the “Technische Universität München” (Technical University of Munich, Germany) and I am currently in the third year. In the second half of my third year I complete a semester abroad in New Zealand for four months (April to July). My aim for this semester abroad was to collect practical experience in the field of landscape architecture. I have already done two practical courses at different landscape architecture and landscape planning offices in Germany, so New Zealand looked very appealing to me. On searching for different offices, the Aesthetic Landscape Company in Auckland was favourable for me, because of the geographical location and the interesting conditions that would emerge (for example climate, geology and vegetation) but also the projects looked very interesting for me.

The great number of national parks is a reason for me to occupy myself intensively with New Zealand, because a main focus of the past semester was the topic of ecology. In addition to this I did a two- week excursion which deepened my knowledge about the vegetation of the Alps/high mountain regions from north to south Europe in the alpine altitudes.

During the last two semesters, I have worked within my field of study on a project of landscaping architecture in Meran (Italy) and the designing of a plaza in Munich. In addition, I deepened my abilities on freehand drawing by going on a voluntary study trip to Florence (Italy) which went along with a lecture.
Another reason to intern in New Zealand was to get acquainted with the cultural diversity and the mixture of different nationalities in the major cities because in my free time I occupy myself with traditions and be very interesting in them. Traveling is also a great experience and you learn a lot for your future life.

During my time I am staying in Germany I am doing some other activities. My favourite ones are dancing, making music and climbing. I am doing different types of dancing. Since my 9th year of life I am doing folk dance from Germany but also from other countries. Shortly afterwards I started to play Clarinet in a musical society. At university I started with Ballroom and Latin dance and I want to improve it because dancing is so much fun!
